Short Break Costa Blanca
November 2022
Costa Blanca Spain
Costa Blanca proofed to be a great destination for the 2022 short break. Originally we planned to take the early flight on November 24 leaving at 06:00 in the morning from Brussels. For some this was a little early so we ended up with most of us leaving already on November 23 in the afternoon allowing a comfortable flight with Transavia and an extra occasion for dinner. We ended up in restaurant Vivo not so far from our hotel CampoAmor as recommended by Dirk. Vivo treated us well and we were just in time for catching Belgians RedDevils playing at the World Cup in Qatar. The hotel was not really welcoming football fanns; it is a ‘golf hotel’ so we decided to cancel dinner for the next evening and went to Browns. Again a great hit. Since most of us where in Spain already on Wednesday Peter, Yves, Dieter and myself decided to already play 9 holes on the course of the hotel and Dieter managed to play his first eagle on the second hole. What a start of a golf trip. Later also Brecht managed to play an eagle on day two. On Thursday we played Las Ramblas. To keep it short it helps to know the course to play well so we definitively have to go back! On Friday we played El Valle which proofed to be well appreciated by many although it was a drive of 30′. Great course in the middle of a compound but nice sandy and rocky course. Friday evening we went to El Rubio 360. Again recommended by Dirk and we had a fantastic dinner and even better wines (thank you C for the treats). On Saturday we played the beautiful course of Las Colinas well known to many Belgians. After enjoying a drink on the terras the disturbing news reached us that burglars had broken into the house of Fred. Saturday night we went to Barlovento (thank you Joost) and many of us had paella. The atmosphere was top and good conversations all evening until it was time to return to the hotel. We needed to get up in time for our last course at Lo Romero before returning to the airport in our four Berlingo’s and home. Overall the hotel was ok for the price we paid but probably we will not go back. Transavia was a good choice for golf travel but Brussels Airport (again) proved to be very inefficient in handling golf bags for which we needed to wait one hour!. That together with the burglary in Fred’s house are the min points. On the positive side we had a great group, good atmostphere, great courses and super dinners. Dieter put together a competition and the end result is that USA won. A big thank you is appropriate to Dirk and Joost for the restaurant recommendations and Xavier for getting good prices at El Valle en Lo Romero. Thank you again.
Those who were absent missed a great trip.
See you next year,
Pirate John
